Agp Video Cards

In this article I am going to talk about the AGP video cards, which are just some of the types of video cards that you can buy for the computer. Even if the AGP video cards are no longer such popular since the PCI Express ones have been introduced, the Accelerated Graphics Port cards were quite an innovation at their time. They came as a result of the constant evolution of the computers. The components in them got better and better, as the software such as games kept on improving. In order to be able to run the games you had to have great computer components. An AGP gives you the possibility of connecting your video card to the computer which then allows you to watch 3-D graphics.

The Peripheral Component Interconnect bus was the method to go prior to the AGP, if you wanted to have 3-D graphics for your computer. The PCI allows the information to travel directly to the CPU but it lacks the point-to-point connection which is offered by AGP. Intel saw this as an opportunity, and it then created the AGP which was able to directly connect to the processor, resulting in a much faster streaming of video and 3-D content.

Intel built the AGP as a dedicated port which means that the AGP graphics card is the only device connected to it. This was a breakthrough as in the case of the PCI graphic cards the data could build up on it, which resulted in a blockage and slow streaming of data. Since the AGP graphics card was the only component connected to the port, it would always operate at its highest capacity. Because of this the AGP could receive multiple packets of information in a singular request, something which was not possible in the case of the PCI graphic cards, as they received each piece of information individually.

Another innovation came in the case of the addressing of graphics data. In the case of the graphics card, all the information has to be sent to the CPU, providing information where it came from. In the case of the AGP card, it provides additional lines which deliver this information, which is much better than in the case of the PCI. In the case of the PCI, the information was contained in the packet of data that it sent and that was kind of demanding for the processor as it had to work harder which slowed the system down quite a bit.

There are other features as well which make the AGP video card much faster than the other ones. The AGP video card is much more efficient, and much faster when it comes to streaming graphics on the PC.
