Getting to this video memory in the shortest time possible is crucial for a proper functionality of the graphics, so special communication means are used. What matters most is that this type of memory has various capacities in between 128 MB and 4 GB.

RAMDAC
RAMDAC is the abbreviation from a specific type of random access memory, responsible with making the necessary conversions for the display to understand the info sent by the graphics. This is necessary because the video card works with digital signals while the monitor only knows analog signals. Thanks to this RAMDAC the communication between graphics and display is possible. It is basically a sort of RAM chip, characterized by a data transfer rate and the number of bits that it processes.

To put it simple, for dummies, any video card works with information and establishes what data needs to be transmitted to the monitor in order to display images. So it obviously works with some outputs. One would be the VGA, which is a connector. If you’re having troubles like distortions of images, some strange electrical noises or sampling errors, the video graphics array should be the first for you to suspect.
Then comes the DVI – digital visual interface – the one that makes all the associations between the pixels from the display and those from the virtual memory.
